Christian Marriage and Deliverance

 Dr. Pat Holliday, PhD.
Marriage is a Divine Institution and is a basis for order in the human race, the boundary for sex, a stable environment for the children.
THE “ONE FLESH” BOND
“And the Lord God said, It is not good that  the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him,” (Gen. 2:18), “Whoso findeth a wife (husband) findeth a good thing, and  obtaineth favor of the Lord,”  (Prov. 18:22).
"Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, 'the two will become one flesh, " (1 Cor. 6:16).
Imagine becoming one flesh with someone through sin and that person is already in bondage. Because you are now "one flesh" you are vulnerable to sharing in the bondage of that person and all the ancestral curses that will come down both sides of that person’s blood lines.
In the deliverance ministry, we see the consequence of these curses operating in people’s lives. God permits it to happen. (Prov. 5:22), "The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast.”
When a believer continues in sexual sin, this is a definite act of rebellion in order to gratify self sexually and emotionally.
That "one flesh" bond is like a cord holding the person fast in a bondage that was released through sin. This is why there is so much difficulty breaking free from these relationships. The cords of sin hold them in place. There is a demonic bondage. Only true repentance will enable a person to get free.
Unfortunately, there are "one flesh" bonds put into place through rape, incest and molestation. No wonder the effects of these terrible experiences do not ever seem to let the victim goes free. There is more than psychological damage affecting the person. There is also a spiritual hold that compounds the psychological problems. There is a wicked bondage in place. Only Jesus and deliverance can heal rape, incest and molestation.  These are spiritual captives.
All this does not seem fair and it isn't. Warfare is seldom fair. There are many wounded victims. But our God is a deliverer, who can break such bondages, heal us and restore us and turn the bad too good.
HISTORY AND THE HOME

“And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD,”  (Josh. 24:15).

History bears testimony to this great fact that the great Roman Empire fell when the homes of that Empire decayed. In the earlier years of the Empire the wives remained at home and cared for their children. It was then that the Empire became great and strong and ruled the world. But later a great moral decline took place. The historian Uhlhorn says, speaking of the moral decline,  The performances in the theater were thoroughly immoral, and everywhere at social theological entertainment painting on the walls, Tables, and utensils for food, representations of naked forms, picture  often positively immodestly, surrounded the guests . . . to say nothing of the shows, dances, music, and songs. The result was that domestic chastity and morality al most wholly disappeared."
Speaking of this same condition, Seneca, a famous Roman philosopher and writer who lived at that time, wrote, "There are women who count their years not by the number of the consuls, but by the number of their husbands."
Juvenile, another Roman writer of this same period, wrote,
"They allow themselves to be divorced before the nuptial garlands have faded."
And Tertullian, one of the famed Church Fathers said, speaking of the same sad state of affairs in the Roman Empire, "They marry only to be divorced." It was then that Rome began to lose its glory and its power that "the sun of Rome set forever in a sea of moral and spiritual depravity."
I wonder whether many of you do not clearly see this same condition prevailing in America today and even in your communities. History repeats itself. Since this is true, may we not safely say that unless America repents, and repents deeply and quickly, America's sun will set forever, and that her glory and power will become just so much history and bitter memory? I give this to you as a second reason why we ought to consider then this great subject, namely, The Christian Home.
Home can be and should be such a precious spot to us. It is the oldest of all institutions. It is as old as the human race. It is a divinely ordained institution. It is meant by the Lord to be the place where love and happiness supremely reigns. It should be the place where children want to spend their time in preference to all other places. It should be far more than a boardinghouse with a lunch-counter.  Without the godly fathers and mothers our church leaders cannot build strong spiritual churches. Without godly parents our national leaders cannot build a strong nation.
Power of God for the Family

EYES OF UNDERSTANDING
The apostle Paul gave us a clear roadmap to power in (Eph. 1:18-23). “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all,”
[The hope of his calling] That you may clearly discern the glorious and important objects of your hope, to the enjoyment of which God has called or invited you.
[The riches of the glory of his inheritance] That you may understand what is the glorious abundance of the spiritual things to which you are entitled, in consequence of being made children of God; for if children, then heirs, heirs of that glorious inheritance which God has provided for the saints-for all genuine Christians, whether formerly Jews or Gentiles. On the chief subject of this verse, (see the notes at Gal 4:6-7).
(Eph. 1:19; Eph. 1:20; Eph. 1:21; Eph. 1:22; Eph. 1:23).
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believes, according to the working of his mighty power,” (Eph. 1:19).
“Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,’ (Eph. 1:20).
[Set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places] Gave him, as mediator between God and man, the highest honours and dignities, (Phil 2:9); in which state of exaltation he transacts all the affairs of his church, and rules the universe. The right hand is the place of friendship, honour, confidence, and authority.
“Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come,” (Eph. 1:21).
It is certain that the apostle means that all created power, glory, and influence, are under Christ; and hence, it is added:
“And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,” (Eph.1: 22).
[And hath put all things under his feet] All beings and things are subject to him, whether they be thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers, (Col 1:16-18, and 2:10 ;)
“Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all,” (Eph. 1: 23).

ADULTERY
The Bible declares, "And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her," (Eccl. 7:26). What a graphic picture is presented here of the adulterous woman! Her "hands as bands" are compared to "chains." In her warm and fond embrace, she entangles or wraps her victim's emotions and affections in "chains of darkness." She entices him with the bait of pleasure and leads him down the path to Hell. Nothing is more ruinous and dangerous to a man's soul than her subtlety and enticements. The only way to escape her "chains," "snares," "nets," and cunning, emotional game is to walk holy, blamelessly, and soberly in this present evil world - while keeping the body and its passions and affections under the absolute control of the Word of God. [i][i]
Jesus said, “But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery,” (Matt. 5:32). Do not divorce your wife except for adultery. You commit adultery by marrying a divorced woman). The apostle John said “if you commit sin, you are the servant of sin,” (Jn. 8:34). The Bible tells us to “Mortify your members; put off all these sins,” (Col. 3:5, 8).

Too long have we taken too lightly our marriage vows wherein we solemnly and openly before God and in the presence of witnesses promised "to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in health and in sickness, to love and to cherish, till death do us part." It is easy for us to criticize world rulers who when an advantage is to be gained disregard their treaty obligations and speak of treaties as scraps of paper, but I am not sure but what our guilt before the Lord is equally great if we can lightly break our marriage vows.

The Bible says, “keep thyself pure from sins,” (I Tim. 5:22). Also see, “Flee youthful lusts; lovers of pleasure more than God; lead captive silly women with diver’s lusts.”

Demons work to break marriages. They will use both the husband and the wife through the spirit of lust. Lust seeks its own gratification.  The pardoner will feel used, degraded or repulsed at having sexual contact with the spouse. Lust is not love. The wife knows when she is not being loved. Sex is actually a sacred gift from God and should be treated as precious with respect.
Due to wide spread pornographic material, many men force their wives into oral, anal and other sexual perversions, often leading the wife into deviate sex. However, in our day due to powerful sexual brainwashing by our schools, televisions, radio and media, women have, in many instances, become willing slaves to sexual demons.

SIN IS A TIE THAT ONLY JESUS CAN BREAK THROUGH DELIVERANCE
Frances Manuel gives us this useful summation: “We do have clear and plain teaching regarding the demons themselves. Demons in vast numbers constitute a part of Satan’s hierarchy and fight in his army. They are spiritual beings without bodies of their own, hence they seek embodiment; they have supernatural power and strength. They are not omniscient, but are creatures of cunning intellect and given to deceits and wiles. They are unclean, corrupt, and bent on destruction and ruin. They degrade the bodies they invade and possess, whether of animals or men. They tremble at the Word of God and have to bow to the authority of Jesus Christ whether exerted directly by Him or by those to whom. He delegated the authority.
“But I fear lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For it he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom, we have not preached, or if  ye  receive another spirit, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him,” (2 (Cor. 11: 3-4).

Do not attend a Friendly Seeker Church where they do not teach about the pitfalls of sin. Your eternal life depends upon your receiving the truth. You must strive to live holy and dedicated to Jesus.

John 8:34, -- “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoevercommitteth sin is the servant of sin.”

The Holy Spirit will convict your heart.  If you do not listen to the Word of conviction He will send the prophets (ministers) to deliver you through the Word.

if you continue to indulge yourself in your hidden sins; spousal abuse, child abuse, self abuse; verbal abuse, unforgiveness; bitterness; rioting; raging; argument; anger, judging, sexual perversions, pornography, etc.

Then judgment will fall in the form of curses on your finances; your job situation; etc.   The tormentors (evil spirits) will come to nest in your life, and then religious spirits will prevail instead of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said, “. . . why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou  say to thy brother, Let thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly  to cast  out  the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”  (Matt. 7:2-5).

Paul wrote, “Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself?   thou that preachest a man  should not steal, dost thou  steal?  Thou that sayest  a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?”  (Rom.  2:21-22).

Godly saints must have a genuine hatred for sin.

(Rom. 6:16), “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”

KEYS TO FREEDOM
The Spirits of God
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God,” (I Jon 4:1).
In the Word of God we are told we can bind and loose spirits in the Name of Jesus. (Matt. 18:18). From this and other scriptures we can be sure that there are spirits from God (other than the Holy Spirit) which minister to the needs of God's people.
Satan cannot create, but only copy and counterfeit.  Therefore, we are safe in assuming that for every ministering spirit of the Lord there will be one, and often many Satanic counter spirits. Because of the devil's inadequacies, it may take a large number of counterfeits to offset the work of one of God's spirit workers.
The following are some of the spirits of God which are mentioned specifically or directly implied in Scripture.  There are doubtless others, but this will at least be a beginning to lead you into a new realm of releasing spirits from the Lord to operate in your life and the lives of others (Matt. 18:18; Hebr. 1:13,14) . . .  Jacob (Gen. 45:27); Wisdom (Ex. 28:3; Isa. 11:2; Eph.1:17); Good  (Neh. 9:20, 30; Ps. 143:10); Right (Ps. 51:10); Understanding (Job 20:3; Isa. 11:2); Constraining (Job 32:18); Guileless (Ps. 32:2); Contrite (Ps. 34:18; Isa. 57:15, 66:2); Free (Ps. 51:12).
